Healing dad
Sep 29, 2025

Sometimes, our story with dad wasn’t what we imagined. There may have been absences, hurtful words, or gestures that never came. That experience leaves deep marks that show up in how we relate today: in our trust, self-esteem, and even in our romantic relationships.
Healing dad doesn’t mean justifying him or erasing what happened. It means looking at the wound with honesty, acknowledging the impact it had on our life, and choosing to let go of the pain in order to live more freely.
Some steps to begin:
Acknowledge what you felt: anger, sadness, abandonment, or even gratitude. Everything has its place.
Differentiate the father from the man: understanding his story doesn’t excuse him, but it helps lighten the weight.
Validate your needs: what you didn’t receive from him, you can give yourself today.
Seek support: therapy, journaling, support groups, or meaningful conversations can open paths to healing.
Healing the relationship with dad (whether in life or in memory) means healing a part of yourself. It’s making room for healthier relationships, clearer boundaries, and a lighter heart.
At BeFree, we believe that every step toward your personal healing is an act of self-love. Healing dad also means opening the door to build your own story from freedom and inner peace.
