Module 1: Introduction to depression
Objective of the Module: Understand what depression is, its symptoms, and how it impacts daily life.
Definition of depression:
Feeling sad and being depressed are not the same… let us explain!
Sadness is a natural and temporary emotion in response to difficult or painful situations. Depression, on the other hand, is a persistent state that affects daily functioning, lasts more than two weeks, and may appear without any specific reason.
A key characteristic to keep in mind is that sadness improves over time and with distraction, while depression tends to persist and intensify without intervention.
